Interview of Senator Sitara Ayaz on “Eurasian Prespective” on Planet FM 87.6

On 09th August 2023, Senator Sitara Ayaz, Secretary General International Parliamentarians Congress, was invited as a guest speaker, by Mr. Khalid Taimur Akram in the programme “Eurasian Perspective” on Planet FM 87.6, Radio Pakistan. Multiple aspects were discussed during the interview like when International Parliamentarians Congress (IPC) came into being, what was the aim behind it, what work is carried out by the organization, etc. She started off by explaining that IPC came into being in 2019, as there was no single international organization headquarters in Pakistan for parliamentarians, so under the leadership of Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, this idea was conceived and now we are connected with almost 50 countries around the world.
The basic theme is to gather parliamentarians from around the world, under one platform, to discuss burning issues and give suggestions on that. One good policy recommendation can be adopted by many other countries; hence to learn from each other is the main goal. She also explained that any sitting parliamentarian from any part of the world can become a member of IPC, as this organization is not affiliated with any government; it is an independent international organization, having its headquarters in Islamabad. The president tenure of the president is 3 years and after that all member parliamentarians can contest in the elections and one of them can be appointed.
After the pandemic, International Parliamentarians Congress (IPC) has started working with many other international organizations; like Asian Development Bank, and its parliamentarian members have been invited by countries like Britain, Netherland, Uzbekistan, etc, as international observers, for their election campaigns. She said that “Pakistan’s imagine can get a redo through this platform, as the President can be elected from any country and members from different countries coming to Pakistan, can see the reality about our country and its people. We can and plan to work together with our neighbouring countries, on issues like climate change, water crisis, food insecurity, etc, as they are the concerning issues of this region, which need immediate attention”.
